Yoga

Yoga is a holistic therapy that originated in India many thousands of years ago. It is believed to be the oldest known system of personal development involving the body, mind and spirit.
The practice of Yoga is gently transforming but with powerful results. It helps to rebalance the body and more importantly, it helps to calm and relax the mind.
There are many different styles of yoga but they all share the same root and have the same goal.
Raja yoga is the path that incorporates Hatha Yoga - this is the most popular form of Yoga in the West. It is the physiological practice that works upon the body and, through the body, upon the mind. The word Hatha comes from "Ha” meaning sun and "Tha" meaning moon and is representative of the balance of energies or feeling of harmony that can be achieved through regular yoga practice.

The 5 Points of Yoga

Breathing – yoga teaches you how to use the lungs to their maximum capacity and how to control the breath. Proper breathing should be deep, slow and rhythmical. This increases vitality and mental clarity.
Relaxation – Centuries before the invention of cars, planes, telephones, computers and other modern triggers of stress, yoga devised powerful techniques of deep relaxation. Many modern stress-management and relaxation methods borrow heavily from this tradition. By deeply relaxing all your muscles, you can thoroughly rejuvenate your nervous system and attain a sense of inner peace.
Exercise – Your physical body is meant to move and exercise. If your lifestyle does not provide natural motion of muscles and joints, then disease and great discomfort can ensue with time. Exercise through yoga improves flexibility, increases energy and maintains physical strength and vitality for longer.
Attitude – The most important point of all: you can become what you think. If you entertain positive and creative thoughts, these will contribute to vibrant health and a peaceful, joyful mind. The mind can be brought under perfect control by regular practice of meditation.
Diet – Besides being responsible for building and maintaining your physical body, the foods we eat profoundly affect our mind. For maximum body-mind efficiency, yoga advocates a healthy well balanced diet based on natural organic foods.

Benefits

Yoga is primarily geared to the prevention of illness but it can also be very helpful in relieving many common ailments, including:
Asthma - by increasing lung capacity and strengthening the respiratory system.
PMT - by improving circulation in the pelvic area, relieving anxiety and balancing hormone levels through the stimulation of the endocrine system.
Backache - by releasing tension, reducing pressure in the spine and strengthening the back muscles
Stress - by calming and focusing the mind and balancing the nervous system through deep stretches and relaxation.
Panic Attacks – by mastering different breathing techniques and meditation.
Arthritis - by removing accumulated wastes, releasing stiffened joints and balancing the immune system.

Yoga for Everyone

If you can find a regular time and a clean, quiet room where we can hold the class without disturbance, then decide which class is for you….
Small Groups
If you and your friends/colleagues are interested in taking yoga classes together, we can arrange to do it in your home or office with personal guidance from a professional yoga teacher. You will all be assessed at the same time, getting the benefit of a group session whilst still receiving the individual attention that is often amiss in a larger class.
Individual Classes
The one to one yoga class uses a step-by-step approach for every level of student as they are guided progressively to develop their yoga practice within their own needs and capabilities. It includes ongoing individual assessment and tuition, developing a personalised sequence. To obtain full benefit, an initial commitment of a minimum of one session per week is necessary to begin the Individual Instruction Program.
